Another day, another stinkin da... Hmm, anyway. Today's review is .HACK//Mutation, a game which i have played and completed over the last few weeks. Today feels a good day, i have party later and i feel like writing more of my book. The .HACK series, released in 2004, was extremely successful in Japan, as well as some good sales in the USA. This is the second in the series, and is shorter than the first, which lays many of the initial foundations. Onward...
Story = 9/10 - Grips you from start to finish, with another cliffhanger at the end, forcing you to play the third game. Third game is also very rare. BlackRoses story also begins to show intrigue.
Gameplay = 8/10 - Basically the same as in game 1, which is no bad thing. Sometimes bosses can be overly annoying for beginners. Free roaming battle system one of the best around.
Graphics = 7/10 - Not exactly peak ps2 quality, with repetitive dungeon maps/textures as well. Characters are very well drawn though. Not exactly terrible.
Originality = 9/10 - The four game idea is at the same time pure genius and pure annoyance. getting a hold of them can be difficult.
Longevity = 6/10 - Really is quite short, compared also to the first game. Only spent about 20 hours on it (still doing bits and pieces). Can be over in about 10 probably.
TOTAL = 39/50 = 78%
-> Only length really lets it down, only little niggles otherwise. Bring on //Outbreak!
2007Sephiroth update = 21% Complete
